where Indigenous wisdom meets Science
Omaro ti in Taino means Little Moon, a name given to me during my adoption on the island of Boriken. Omaroti is rooted in wellness in the Well of Indigenous Wisdom. After moving to the island of Boriken and living through the aftermath of hurricane Maria, the call to Omaroti, became more important as my contribution to wellness work. My wellness work is about fulfilling and immersing myself in the position of the calling; enhancing life by using plant medicine to heal people. An important part of my clinical work is offering devotional service in collaboration with Herbalists without Borders International by providing free clinical and herbal remedies to underserved populations.
Located in the heart of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico town center, Omaroti is a space offering local collaboration, creating healing opportunities, empowering through consultation and being a vortex for health consciousness. Simply put, we specialize in herbal medicine, nutrition, education and body care (yoga, dance and energy medicine).
I am Olatokunboh Obasi, owner of Omaroti, a business of the Well of Indigenous Wisdom. My roots are grounded in Africa. I am of indigenous East and West African lineages. I learned the art of healing from the age of 9. Ever since, I have applied those concepts in my healing work and in my own lifestyle. I decided over10 years ago to complete my Master's of Science in Herbal Medicine from Maryland University of Integrative Health. I also received my board certification as a nutritional specialist. I have a Bachelor's of Arts in French Education and I have been a birth doula for over 15 years, I am a certified dance instructor and a yoga instructor in the Sivananda tradition. I integrate all my knowledge in my consultations which honors both an indigenous and scientific approach to health and wellness.
Education is where my heart lies. I am an author. I have taught many over the years. Several of my students are already in business or practice within the US. I have also been invited to teach at universities, churches, community organizations, herbal medicine schools, conferences and fairs such as the American Herbalist Guild, Southeast Women's Herbal Conference, Arbor Vitae in New York and Blue Ridge School of Herbal Medicine in North Carolina as well as many others.
Omaroti is a collaboration of our family effort. My young adult children assist and co-create many of the products in our inventory.
